rummage & junk meanings

The word “rummage” is derived from the word arrumage, meaning to stow cargo securely.  It came to mean clearing out the hold of a ship to make more room in English usage.

The word “junk” is originally a nautical term for a piece of old cable.  In the mid-19th century, it was transferred to unwanted rubbish or poor-quality items.
