lange auction house to close doors

In Uncategorized on July 5, 2011 at 9:43 pm

Shauna Lee Lange, the Founder and Principal of Lange Auction House, LLC in Key West, Florida, announced today that her auction house business will be permanently closing its doors on September 30th.  Ms. Lange cites the downward economy, the rising costs of living expenses, and the increasing numbers of people moving out of the Florida Keys as the causation for her decision.  In an interview recently, she said:

“Lange Auction House is a fine, full-service auction firm specializing in auctions, estate sales, appraisals, and liquidations.  With volatility in the marketplace, valuation becomes an extremely difficult science and a complex business challenge.  We continued to receive multiple requests, up and down the Keys, for total and complete liquidation sales and services from property owners who unrealistically expected more than top dollar for very common place items.  Auction Houses on the whole are maintaining their operating costs in the rest of the country where supply and demand are more equally balanced.  However, residents of the Florida Keys (and particularly Key West) still retain a rich history of salvage, wreckage, piracy and treasure lore and spirit.  We simply found it increasingly burdensome to separate the imbalance of fact versus fiction in the honorable re-sale and public offering of personal property found in this region.”

Lange, who previously ran a professionally licensed arts advisory in the Washington, DC metropolitan area will return to her love of art both as a working artist and arts advocate and advisor with a special interest in public art, antiques and collectible art.  Colonel Alex Lange will maintain his title and pursue other interests in architecture, art, and sports.  Ms. Lange explains that while she is winding down shop, including her company’s membership in the Key West Chamber of Commerce and the Key West Business Guild, she will remain available to try to assist the community with personal property needs and advice until the end of the calendar year 2011.

Shauna Lee Lange, Founder & President of Lange Auction House, is pleased to announce her membership approval for the National Association of Professional Women for 2011/2012.  The NAPW highlights and profiles the country’s most accomplished professional women in over 200 industries and career fields.  The organization provides an exclusive and powerful networking forum for members to communicate and achieve social and career development.

local law enforcement supporters

The world of technology, Craigslist, stolen goods, furniture & antiques, and mistaken identities has become increasingly complex.  In the case of Craigslist, when buying or selling furniture and antiques, one can never truly be sure of the origin of the item.  As supporters of local law enforcement, Lange Auction House takes routine steps to ensure that the items we buy and sell are fully documented.  We want to offer to our customers, security in the provenance of the items they are buying and we want to offer to the general public, confidence in the fact that all items have a proper chain of ownership.  Lange Auction House does not deal in items of questionable origin.

Today, Lange Auction House collaborated with and agreed to collaborate in the future with local law enforcement in offering to provide our services for any questions relative to the acquisition or disposition of items.  We are happy to be of service in fighting crime and serving our community in only the most positive way.  If there are ever any questions about the dealings or operation of Lange Auction House, the President and Founder, Shauna Lee Lange is always available to answer them immediately, directly and honestly.

The business of Auction House services, personal property estate sales, appraisals, liquidations, and antiques & collectibles is one that is built slowly over time by virtue of reputable dealers.  The auction world specifically is a very small and close-knit family as it is an extremely unusual profession.  It requires a true love of art, antiques, design, history and economy.  In themselves, these are full-time enterprises requiring a great deal of committed attention.  Lange Auction House of the Florida Keys has adopted a policy that will both turn OVER information to law enforcement as well as turn DOWN any transactions which are questionable in nature.

Vintage 1960 Book of Knowledge World Globe

Lange Auction House of Key West is happy to announce it has finally received a Florida State approval for operation and licensure as an Auction Business.  The confirmation from the Department of Business and Professional Regulation was received on February 14, 2011.

A great love of antiques, art, collectibles and design led Shauna Lee Lange (President & Founder) and Colonel Alex K. Lange (CEO & Auctioneer) to launch their Florida Keys business in estate sales and auction house services.  The family operated business is headquartered in Key West.

Featured above is one of the many fine items Lange Auction House will be putting on the market; a vintage 1960’s Book of Knowledge globe on axis.  Globe collectors are a special breed of cartography, map, and geography history lovers as maps are but one of the earliest art forms known to man.  This particular beauty shows the division of East & West Germany prior to the fall of the Berlin Wall.

ALEXANDRIA, VA (November 24, 2008) — City of Alexandria, Virginia, Mayor William D. Euille invites the Alexandria community to participate in Buy Alexandria, Our Dollars Count, an educational and marketing campaign encouraging the Alexandria community to buy in Alexandria in an effort to strengthen the economic vitality of the City. The City of Alexandria faces a challenging economic environment similar to the unprecedented fiscal decline impacting the entire country. To thrive during these difficult times, City residents can help the local economy by buying in Alexandria, because their dollars count.

Participating in Buy Alexandria, Our Dollars Count is easy: simply shop, dine, entertain and buy essentials in Alexandria. “Support local business by doing your holiday shopping, going out to dinner and buying the basics right here in Alexandria,” said Mayor Euille. “Your purchases, from big-ticket items to everyday necessities, directly benefit the City’s tax base.” For example, if each household spent the national average on holiday gifts ($612) in Alexandria, the tax revenue would generate enough money to pay for five police officers or cover the average City snow plowing costs for one snow event.

Local companies can help as well. Business owners are also encouraged to take advantage of local opportunities whenever possible to purchase equipment and supplies in Alexandria.   Buying where you live and work is also good for the environment. You can reduce your carbon footprint by using mass transit, driving shorter distances and walking to make your purchases in Alexandria. Everyone can help in many ways by keeping their dollars in Alexandria.

“As we navigate an uncertain financial future, it is critical to support our local businesses and government with our business,” said Mayor Euille. “Buying in Alexandria and spending our dollars here will strengthen our economy, and help sustain the excellent services Alexandrians are accustomed to receiving.  Remember: when you spend here, everyone benefits.”
